Hartman and one daughter was born to this union: Betty Kehl. He married Mae Gladys<br />

(Bittner) Mumford on August 31, 1940 and no children were born to this marriage.<br />

Herb farmed for 55 years in rural <strong>Hanover</strong> and also owned a construction company with<br />

which he built many roads in northwestern Illinois, and two golf courses. Herb died<br />

April 29, 2001 and cremation rites were accorded.<br />

Shelly, Mae Gladys (Bittner) Mumford was born April 15, 1910 in rural Mount<br />

Carroll, Illinois and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Henry W. and Cora May (Cummings) Bittner.<br />

She married John Wesley Mumford in 1929. She divorced John and married Herbert<br />

“Herb” William Shelly on August 31, 1940; no children were born to either marriage.<br />

They lived in rural <strong>Hanover</strong>. Mae died September 3, 1982 and is buried in Lower York<br />

Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois.<br />

Shemitis, Alice Jean (Nesbitt) was born March 8, 1927 in <strong>Hanover</strong> and was the<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Wallace and Anastasia “Ann” (Clough) Nesbitt. She graduated from<br />

<strong>Hanover</strong> High School in 1945 and from Gregg Secretary School in 1947. Jean married<br />

Frank I. Shemitis on November 25, 1949 in Cook County, Illinois and three children<br />

were born to this union: Richard Paul Shemitis, Timothy Jay Shemitis, and Carole Ann<br />

Shemitis. Jean worked as a secretary and the family lived in Evergreen Park, Illinois for<br />

many years. Jean died November 16, 1985 in Evergreen Park.<br />

Shepherd, Bill Ernest was born June 10, 1924 in Dubuque, Iowa and was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Ernest William and Amey (Redmond) Shepherd. He graduated from Platteville High<br />

School in 1942. Bill was a U.S. Army World War <strong>II</strong> Veteran and he received a Bronze<br />

Star. He married Elizabeth “Betty” May Potter on March 8, 1947 in Galena and two<br />

children were born to this union: Jamie Carol (Shepherd) Seitz and Bill Austin<br />

Shepherd. Bill worked for many years at the Savanna Army Depot as Chief <strong>of</strong><br />

Equipment. Bill died January 14, 2010 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery.<br />

Shepherd, Robert “Bob” William was born April 1, 1921 in rural Jo Daviess County<br />

and was the son <strong>of</strong> Ernest William and Amey (Redmond) Shepherd. He married<br />

Thelma Isabel Antone on June 8, 1944 in Chatswood, New South Wales, Australia and<br />

three children were born to this union: Lynette Rae (Shepherd) Duffy, Wayne Robert<br />

Shepherd, and Marlene Joy (Shepherd) Dawe. Bob was a World War <strong>II</strong> Veteran. The<br />

family lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong> years, moving to Woodbine in 1962, and a few<br />

years later to Stockton. He worked as a truck driver at the Savanna Army Depot. Bob<br />

died June 27, 1984 and is buried in Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton.<br />

Shepherd, Thelma Isabel (Antone) was born April 9, 1918 in Tumut, New South<br />

Wales, Australia and was the daughter <strong>of</strong> Lloyd E. and Isabel M. (Piper) Antone. She<br />

married Robert William Shepherd on June 8, 1944 in Chatswood, New South Wales and<br />

three children were born to this union: Lynette Raw (Shepherd) Duffy, Wayne Robert<br />

Shepherd, and Marlene Joy (Shepherd) Dawe. They lived in <strong>Hanover</strong> for a number <strong>of</strong><br />

years before moving to Woodbine in 1962, and a few years later to Stockton. Thelma<br />

retired from Atwood Manufacturing Company, Stockton. Thelma died June 11, 1990<br />

and is buried in Ladies Union Cemetery, Stockton.<br />

Sherich, Burton “Burt” Kyle was born January 23, 1930 in Lodgepole, Nebraska and<br />

was the son <strong>of</strong> Harley and Maude (Schinn) Sherich. He served in the U.S. Navy from<br />

1950-1954. Burt married Florence Louise Kintz on March 28, 1956 in Sidney,<br />

Nebraska and four children were born to this union: Timothy “Tim” Burton Sherich,<br />

Lynnette “Lynn” Louise (Sherich) Bourrette, Susan Dawn (Sherich) Roberts, and<br />
