Chapter Wrap-Up<br />

This chapter explored many of the ways that modern communication technologies help us interact with<br />

each other. Whether we’re talking over a headset <strong>to</strong> someone through our gaming console or texting<br />

our roommate, we use these technologies <strong>to</strong> communicate with people all the time. The first part of this<br />

chapter explored the his<strong>to</strong>ry of computer-mediated communication, which was followed by a discussion<br />

of the process of computer-mediated communication. We then discussed identity formation in virtual<br />

environments. We ended the chapter by looking at four of the most commonly discussed theories<br />

related <strong>to</strong> computer-mediated communication. Hopefully, you realize that this chapter barely scratches<br />

the surface when it comes <strong>to</strong> how people are using technology <strong>to</strong> create and enhance their interpersonal<br />
