method of characteristics. The following points were looked at:<br />

• the issue of the particle conservation when anisotropic scattering is consi<strong>de</strong>red<br />

and the constraints that it imposes on the numerical integration procedure,<br />

• the issue of the spatial integration scheme,<br />

• the issue of the algorithmic strategy for the flux integration and the necessity<br />

(or not) to introduce an asymptotical treatment.<br />

A testing procedure of these methods on realistic configurations of nuclear reactors<br />

was used in or<strong>de</strong>r to validate the software <strong>de</strong>velopments. Three studies were<br />

carried out on different geometries. In two cases corresponding to BWR-MOX and<br />

CANDU NG geometries, the characteristic method validation was performed along<br />

with the validation of different self-shielding mo<strong>de</strong>ls. The <strong>la</strong>st case was oriented<br />

towards the <strong>de</strong>finition of a computational scheme for production calcu<strong>la</strong>tions on<br />

PWR assemblies.
