LAVAGEM DO BONFIM:
ENTRE A PRODUÇÃO E A INVENÇÃO DA FESTA

RESUMO
A partir de um análise da lavagem simbólica do Santuário do Senhor do
Bonfim, procura-se analisar aspectos lúdico-festivos que compõem a
chamada “baianidade”. A “lavagem” ocorre antes do Carnaval oficial
e é um “carnaval” que questiona a “ordem”. A identidade e a relação
dos baianos com o sagrado estão no cerne do trabalho que destaca as
investidas do poder público e da indústria cultural, no sentido de circunscrever
a “festa” a um evento turístico. As manifestações culturais
do povo negro, reconhecidas como a “alma” da cidade, pelos dirigentes
de órgãos de turismo, tratadas como manifestações folclóricas, uma
verdadeira prisão reservada ao povo negro alegre e festeiro, qualidades
atribuídas geneticamente ao grupo a partir da raça, apimentadas com
concepções racistas.

LAVAGEM DO BONFIM: BETWEEN THE PRODUCTION AND
THE INVENTION OF THE FESTIVAL
Departing from an analysis of the symbolic washing of the Sanctuary of
Senhor do Bonfim, one aims at analyzing ludic-festive aspects that
compose the so-called “baianidade”. The “washing” happens before
the official Carnival and it is a “carnival” that questions the “order”.
The identity and the relationship of Bahians with the sacred are in the
center of the work, which highlights the investing of the public power
and of the cultural industry, in the sense of circumscribing the “festival”
to a tourist event. The cultural manifestations of the Afrodescendants,
recognized as the “soul” of the city by the directors of
tourism organs, are treated as folkloric manifestations, a true prison
reserved for the happy and festive Afro-descendant, qualities attributed
genetically to the group of the race, spiced up with racist conceptions.
