common sense but it makes it clear that the magnet chosen must not be <strong>to</strong>o strong for the size of the frame, and<br />

why that should be.<br />

As an example of this, one of the people replicating Lawrence's design found that he did not get any power gain at<br />

all and so he asked Lawrence for advice. Lawrence advised him <strong>to</strong> omit the magnet and see what happened. He<br />

did this and immediately got the standard output, showing that both his input arrangement and his output<br />

measuring system both worked perfectly well. It then dawned on him that the stack of three magnets which he<br />

was using in the frame were just <strong>to</strong>o strong, so he reduced the stack <strong>to</strong> just two magnets and immediately got a<br />

performance of COP = 1.5 (50% more power output than the input power).<br />

The Transformers of Thane Heins.<br />

Thane has developed, tested and applied for a patent for a transformer arrangement where the output power of<br />

his pro<strong>to</strong>type can be thirty times greater than the input power. He achieves this by using a figure-of-eight double<br />

<strong>to</strong>roid transformer core. His Canadian patent CA2594905 is titled "Bi-Toroid Transformer" and dated 18th<br />

January 2009. The abstract says: The invention provides a means of increasing transformer efficiency above<br />

100%. The transformer consists of a single primary coil and two secondary coils.<br />

Magnetic flow is a thousand times easier through iron than it is through air. Because of that fact transformers are<br />

generally constructed on a frame made of iron or a similarly magnetic material. The operation of a transformer is<br />

nothing like as simple as school teaching would suggest. However, leaving parametric excitation aside for the<br />

moment, let us consider the effects of magnetic flow.<br />

The way that off-the-shelf transformers work at the moment is like this:<br />

When a pulse of input power is delivered <strong>to</strong> Coil 1 (called the "Primary winding"), it creates a magnetic wave<br />

which passes around the frame or "yoke" of the transformer, passing though Coil 2 (called the "Secondary<br />

winding") and back <strong>to</strong> Coil 1 again as shown by the blue arrows. This magnetic pulse generates an electrical<br />

output in Coil 2, which flows through the electrical load (lighting, heating, battery charging, video displays, or<br />

whatever) providing it with the power which it needs <strong>to</strong> operate.<br />

This is all well and good but the catch is that when the pulse in Coil 2 finishes, it also generates a magnetic pulse,<br />

and unfortunately, that magnetic pulse runs in the opposite direction, opposing the operation of Coil 1 and causing<br />

it <strong>to</strong> have <strong>to</strong> boost it's input power in order <strong>to</strong> overcome this magnetic flow in the opposite direction, shown here by<br />

the red arrows:<br />

This is what makes current scientific "experts" say that the electrical efficiency of a transformer will always be less<br />

than 100%. This effect is caused by the magnetic path being symmetrical. Like the flow of electricity, magnetic<br />

flow passes along every possible path. If the magnetic path has low magnetic resistance (generally due <strong>to</strong> having<br />

a large cross-sectional area), then the magnetic flow through that path will be large. So, faced with several paths,<br />

magnetic flow will go along all of them in proportion <strong>to</strong> how good each path is for carrying magnetism.<br />
