reason, the tuning of the completed electronics board and the construction of the best possible transformer <strong>to</strong><br />

match the electronics <strong>to</strong> the electrolyser, is always different for each electrolyser built.<br />

The completed third-generation Boyce board looks like this:<br />

It is not <strong>to</strong>o difficult <strong>to</strong> assemble this board as the printed circuit board can be purchased ready-made and a<br />

complete set of components can be ordered using the ordering system set up in the WorkingWatercar forum.<br />

You should notice here, that the whole of the aluminium case is being used as a “heat-sink” <strong>to</strong> dissipate the heat<br />

generated in the FET driver transis<strong>to</strong>rs. These transis<strong>to</strong>rs are all bolted <strong>to</strong> the case and each has it’s own<br />

rectangle of mica “washer” between the transis<strong>to</strong>r and the case. These pieces of mica pass heat very readily <strong>to</strong><br />

the case, while at the same time, isolating the transis<strong>to</strong>rs electrically so that they will not interfere with each other.<br />

Notice <strong>to</strong>o, the plastic support columns at each corner of the printed circuit board. These are used <strong>to</strong> mount the<br />

printed circuit board securely, while holding it away from the metal case and so preventing any possibility of the<br />

connections on the underside of the board being short-circuited by the case itself.<br />

In some of the builds of the electronics board, it has been found that it is sometimes difficult <strong>to</strong> get the highest<br />

frequency oscilla<strong>to</strong>r operating correctly at around 42.8 KHz due <strong>to</strong> some NE556 chips being out of specification.<br />

Even though they should be the same, chips from different manufacturers, and even the same branded chip from<br />
