These windings can be made on a PVC pipe with a diameter from 50 mm <strong>to</strong> 75mm.<br />

For the s<strong>to</strong>rage capaci<strong>to</strong>r bank you can use capaci<strong>to</strong>rs with a voltage rating of anything from 5 kV <strong>to</strong> 15 kV with<br />

<strong>to</strong>tal capacity of about 2 microfarads. Suitable Russian oil-filled capaci<strong>to</strong>rs, include all types of K41-1, K75-53<br />

and others. This is the circuit diagram of the device:<br />

Diodes VD1, VD2 – high-voltage composites.<br />

Diode VD5 needs <strong>to</strong> be an ultrafast type rated at 1200 V, 30-150 Amps.<br />

Choke L3 is any kind with an open magnetic core, wound with wire of not less than 6 sq. mm., and giving a 1.5<br />

milli-Henry inductance.<br />

The load (an inverter or a DC mo<strong>to</strong>r) requires a low input voltage of 12V <strong>to</strong> 110 volts (lower voltage - high power<br />

output)<br />

When building and experimenting be sure <strong>to</strong> take all Safety Precautions as you will be<br />

working with more than 1000 Volts.<br />

The “SISG” module shown in the circuit above is an attempt <strong>to</strong> build a solid-state version of a spark gap. In this<br />

version of Don Smith’s designs by ‘Dynatron’ he wanted the equivalent of a diac or a dinis<strong>to</strong>r. A dinis<strong>to</strong>r is<br />

basically a thyris<strong>to</strong>r or SCR without the gate. It starts conducting very suddenly if the voltage on it’s terminals<br />

exceeds it’s design value and it s<strong>to</strong>ps conducting if the voltage drops <strong>to</strong> almost zero or the circuit is disconnected,<br />

forcing the current <strong>to</strong> become zero. Diacs or dinis<strong>to</strong>rs are hard <strong>to</strong> find for very high voltages over 5000V, so<br />

Dynatron tried <strong>to</strong> build equivalent circuits which could be used at high voltage and any one of those designs is<br />

what is indicated by the box marked “SISG”.<br />
