Electronic circuits are normally “read” from left <strong>to</strong> right, so we will look at this circuit that way. The first<br />

components are the 100 microfarad, 35 volt electrolytic capaci<strong>to</strong>r with the tiny 100 nF capaci<strong>to</strong>r across it. These<br />

are put there <strong>to</strong> help iron out any variations in the voltage supply. The BZX85C zener diode is a 24-volt type and<br />

it protects the integrated circuit from voltage spikes coming along the +12-volt line from other equipment in the<br />

vehicle, preventing the circuit from being fed more than 24 volts for even a fraction of a second as that would<br />

damage the integrated circuit.<br />

The next item is the On/Off dashboard switch. When switched <strong>to</strong> its Off position as shown here:<br />

the connection from the oxygen sensor is passed straight through <strong>to</strong> the vehicle’s fuel computer, bypassing the<br />

circuit board completely. This switch allows the whole circuit <strong>to</strong> be switched Off should you want <strong>to</strong> do this for any<br />

reason.<br />

In it’s On position, as shown in the circuit diagram, the varying voltage signal coming from the oxygen sensor is<br />

passed in<strong>to</strong> the circuit, and the output voltage from the circuit is passed back <strong>to</strong> the fuel computer, instead of the<br />

original sensor voltage. This allows the circuit <strong>to</strong> manipulate the voltage sent <strong>to</strong> the fuel computer.<br />

The next set of components (four resis<strong>to</strong>rs, one ceramic capaci<strong>to</strong>r and one preset resis<strong>to</strong>r) shown here:<br />
