415: The advising service seems to end at and in the internet. Although we (students) canspeak with an advisor, I feel that it is more suggested that we use the web site.418: Just to be specific, I am in the honors program, where students are given a lot of benefits, registering and class advice being 2 of them.422: maybe have more advisors available.433: Focus a little more on what the student is asking for. Be very thorough and specific andavoid generalizations. Most students that aren't familiar with HCC need everythingexplained in detail.444: Hire friendlier, more knowledgable, more motivated staff.449: I think it would help if teachers could post current grades so our advisors could help usout in case we need to retake something.456: mabye specifically point out where the advising guides are located online so the studentcan refer back to them in the future to help themselves in the future. No one ever told methe guides were located online and they are a huge help to have at your fingertips.457: get people that know what they are doing and know that when someone says they want tobe a physical therapists that they are suppost to be in the pre-physical therapy major.463: More staffing would be great at the beginning of semesters, especially fall, when the newhigh school graduates are starting.474: They should be better informed in telloing you which classes to take in order to achievedregree, not the roundabout way, and which classes will be transfer to other univeristiestowards your degree.485: The staff is great, but there are so many different people for different things that it getsconfusing.495: HAVE AN ADVISOR THAT DOES NOT JUST REFER STUDENTS TO THEADVISING GUIDES ON THE HCC WEBSITE. THE ADVISOR I SAW MADE ITSEEM LIKE I WAS AN INCONVENIENCE TO HER.497: I am enrolled in the Honors Institute so I do not really have the need to see an academicadvisor. I see Ms. Grinstead instead.507: be more knowledgable508: The advisors could be more helpful in explaining what is needed for a specific degree ormajor change. The advisor that I most recently met with enrolled me into a class anddismissed me without asking if that was all I needed when, in fact, I had three otherclasses to enroll into.509: i have been meeting with the advising staff of the honors program, Ms. Grinstead, andshe is wonderful. i hae not spoken with or been aproached by any of the non-honors staff.519: Make sure the staff is well trained and organized521: More organization would help out. There are so many students, so maybe get some moreadvisors.539: Have advisors that are not just sitting at the desk being bored, ones that are willing tohelp would be a great improvement. I have visted advisors numerous times in my HCCtime and I have eneded up taking 2 classes I did not need, but according to advisors, Idid. Making sure the information they give you accurate and not having to wait 30minutes to sometimes well over and hour would be great as well. In addition, when tryingto call an advisor, or anybody at HCC you become tangled in the propmting cyclefrustrating the caller and they eventaully hang up, never getting the help they had calledforStudent Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q15: Advising – Page 101
