549: Hire people who are willing to help students, and willing to be patient. Every person I'veencountered was short, impatient and made no extra effort to ensure I had the informationI needed.551: When you make an appointment to see an advisor, they need to see you at theappointment time and not 20 minutes later. I was on time, they should be too. Onemorning whilst I was waiting to see an advisor, there were 2 students ahead of me and 4advisors in the back. They were too busy socializing to see us students. I also saw 2different advisors in connection with getting my AA, both I asked if I needed to doanything else to graduate. Both neglected to give me the application to graduate form. Now I have found somebody who is very willing to work with me and does not give methe wrong or lack of information552: Not sure554: They should ensure that they have met with all the student enrolled at one point oranother.560: provide more people562: Try to have more advisors available on the extended days564: office's environment569: Time! I understand it is a college campus and there are thousands of students. However, that does not excuse unorganized system we have at HCC. To get an appointment, sometimes is not even worth the time you wait for. You spend this time waiting for anappoitment and end up receiving information that is just enough to get you out of theiroffice. The time that is spent with the advisor and care is insulting.573: have information applicable to its allied health programs and prereques, instead ofadvising a student to go to the internet to retrieve same574: Have transfer student transcripts and other documents into the system quicker; have moreinformation and forms online; offer longer advising hours for students enrolled forcollege credit certificates and cannot make normal business hours581: Well I am almost done with my AA and the adviser didn't seem to have a lot ofinformation to give me about where i go from here.582: make sure that each counselor is knowledgeable. you can to one counselor they tell youthis is what you need and the next time if you see someone different you get a differenctoutcome about what courses you need.585: Let's start with the appointment setting that doesn't exist when even if you were to makeone. Or maybe the counselors who "conviently" aren't there when you requested a meet.My first initial meet with an advisor was complete unsuccessful, nothing wasaccomplished and I had to return again, only to get broad information that the firstcounselor told me she "didn't have time to help me out" with. The second counseloratleast pointed me in a direction of classes to take, after mixing my grades up withsomeone elses, causing a hold on my account for two weeks and me not being able toregister for classes right away. That being fixed, he then did NOT change my descriptionof a major, even though i have emailed and called and sat down another 3 times to changeSPECIFICALLY that.587: It would've been most helpful had I been advised correctly regarding whether or not a setof math courses built upon one another, or were independent of each other. I returned toHCC after 20 years, and needlessly audited 2 math classes (in which I had originallyreceived A's) as a way of "brushing up", only to find out the next class up, which was theStudent Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q15: Advising – Page 116
