students. It is impossible to get an appointment to see them and it takes a all day. Themost disappointing is when you walk in and they are busy on their cell phone, you take asit and they don’t seem to notice you are there. They take their sweat time. I think theyneed to respect what they do and do it willing. • I personally had a bad experience mostlywith the counselors and I will never waste my time seeking any of their advice besidesthey don’t know what to tell you but they are ready to turn you away as soon as you walkin. Today I am a student at HCC because of the head of Dental Assisting programmanager. None of the cou nselors could tell me one straight answer and it took me thelongest time to find out who to talk to. I still see student going back and forth with theirteachers because unsolved issues. Some teachers have better help then the counselors byfar and they always find solutions. • Why do i need them if they cant help me? • Thereare so many students who drop out because of luck of guidance or proper advice.906: Clone Vicki Schnurr!! :)910: Have more qualified staff members. The two that are qualified always have new staffmembers going in and out asking questions during sessions with other students. It makesthe time that we are being serviced take that much longer and frustrating!918: be able to make appointments like you can in the academic success center-- people do nothave time to wait around for the next person.920: Have staff memebers know what they are talking about. They should the programsthrough and through. I received the wrong academic direction on more than oneoccasion, which caused me to retake a class that I was advised that initially that I wouldnot have to retake! Very frustrating! This cost me time and money and I am now leavingwith a feeling of wasted time and money. :(923: HCC could better inform students of the importance of scheduling an appointment withan advisor, rather than allowing multiple students to congregate in theadvising/counseling office(s). It feels very chaotic at times to sit in a room with so manyother people. Fortunately, this only happens during registration periods (at Ybor andDale Mabry).934: Be more indepth in helping and aiding the student. Be familar with the other departments.Waiting for an apointment is terrible.939: They could explain, when a student takes the CPT that they have a range that need to fallin to retake it. The student should be prepared to take the CPT test.949: everything. advising is awful. i hate wasting my time there.950: have more qualified personnel on staff to answer questions. i was told that i could takeintro to ed in conjunction with teaching diverse populations and that was wronginformation. intro to ed is a prerequisite of teachinf diverse pop so i had to drop it and ineed to replace the three credits with something else and the semester had already startedso it was quite difficult trying to find a class that i needed and that was available954: hcc could improve the advising services by making the advisors more avaiable to thestudents and not having an hour long wait.964: I think that more trianing needs to be implemented, and I think that advisors need to beon top of any changes that might take place within academic fields. Thus, I think that ifthat is too much to ask, then specialize advisors to specific fields, so that they do not getoverwhelmed.975: They need updated information on transfers to the universities. My advisor had no ideathat I needed to take the CLAST to enter the College of Education next year.Student Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q15: Advising – Page 121
