978: do not let student wait that too long time, why can not have opoinment? becauseeverytime let us wait and wait,we give up to go to there.979: once again wiyth the advising office it's hit or miss the staff members that know therestuf are very helpful but the guy who told me that even though i had taken calc 1 2 and 3and de i still needed to ake college algebra and precalc was a waste of the two hours ispent waiting to see him997: less wait time, more organization1003: When I requested my graduation audit both advising and counceling did not know whichoffice performed this service. I was bantered back and forth. Finally I left and returnedanother day. This time someone knew what this service entailed and service wasexpediant.1004: Can't think of a thing. My experience with them was very pleasant and informative.1005: I really ended up in a bad spot this semester, having to really fight to graduate. I had metwith an advisor who at the time told me I was right where I needed to be with the classesI was taking in order to graduate in December with my AA and my AS. Then, half wayinto the semester, I got a letter stating that I would need to take two additional classes formy AS. The amount of effort necessary to fight this could have been eliminated beforethe semester started had the advisor taken the time to really review my file. Thecomplication was that I had been a transient student in the spring and a new curriculumwas going to be implemented. When it came time to dispute this, the advisor showed nointerest in making the situation better. Only insisting that I either plan for anothersemester or get my director to take other classes instead. In the end, I got it worked out,but this was a huge amount of stress that could have been avoided.1013: have a permanent advisor. One that can get to know you personally and its familiar withyour career path.1014: I am part of the honors institute. Our advisor is there 24/7 and very very helpful. She willsit with you for as long as you need her too. I think HCC should be more organized.1016: In addition to the previous note, I would suggest that advising meet with the deans ofeach program so that they are up to date with the pre requisites for each course at HCC.It is a common occurrence to hear students talking about how they were advised thewrong class. YES, it is completely agreeable that it is each student's responsibility totake the correct classes for what each student needs. The only problem is that advisorshave the access codes to unlock access to a program. What need is there to pay theseextra salaries to advisors if the students are actually supposed to find all this CORRECTinformation for themselves? Get rid of the advisors and reduce the tuition for all thestudents.1018: conduct a mandatory refresher at least on a yearly basis to make sure that every adviser iswell informed and armed with the information necessary to provide good service to thestudent body1022: I'm not sure.1024: Advising to present all available resources to students, rather than assume a studentshould be on a specific track.1028: Dedicated staff for each major program/subprogram; combine roles of counselor andadvisor; too much turnover of staff in advising office for consistancy1034: When I went into the advising office this semester, there was almost a two hour wait so Imade an appointment. The day of my appointment I had to wait about 45 minutes afterStudent Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q15: Advising – Page 122
