55: They could be correct about the information provided. I took MAC 1140 for no reasonbecause I was advised to do so. I received no credit towards my degree, wasted my time, and wasted my money as a result.59: Create an appointment based system, which will give priority to those students who haveappointments but still taking care of walk-ins when advisors are available.67: At the Y'bor campus they need to start using computers and not sign in sheets. Thepeople at the front desk do not care if they lose that sheet. It happened to me and I had towait for alomost 4 hrs!69: Well for one thing when I went to get advised there was not a chair to sit in. The reasonfor this is obvious. The fact that you are made to stand while trying to figure out thesequestions is ridiculous, it would be better to put a sign on the door that says I only want tohelp you if I can do it in less than 3 minutes. Surely with so much talent at the universityyou can figure out a better system to speed the process other than not putting a chair forthe person to sit in in the room.71: would like if the adviser would know a little more about USF and other 4 year schools. tohelp choose classes72: When I did meet with an HCC adviser before starting my prerequisite classes for mynursing degree, the advisor herself was very nice and encouraging. Unfortunately, shedid not have the most recent requirements for the nursing program. She said I would haveto contact the nursing department for an up to date advising guide. Maybe I am unawarebut isn't the Advising Office supposed to have access to the latest information for alldegrees offered at the college. If not, then why doesn't each department have their ownadvising services? You need to offer more unified services at HCC.75: Ok, no problem83: The lines are long and advisors rush students in and out. It would be helpful to makeappointments to sit with an Advisor for at least an hour to review your goals. Pleasenote: Ms. Joey Naftel at the Plant City Campus would make "unofficial" appointmentswith students to review their short and long-term goals-we need more of that at allcampuses.85: KNOW YOUR INFORMATION!!!87: The advisor I met with the first and second times I had visited the Advising Centerseemed very un-interested in what I had to say and ask. Her cell phone was ringing andour meeting had to be interupted so she could take her personal phone call on her cellphone. And when she wasn't talking on her phone, she would be putting her head in herhands as if she didn't care about what I had to say or I was boring her with my questions.I was completely disappointed with the way she interacted with me and she is the mainreason I have yet to visit the Advising Center again. Her job is help students in importantschool related issues, and she failed terribly. So a way that HCC could improve it'sAdvising Center is to get advisors that care about student's futures and not just having thejob so they can get a pay check. This is a COLLEGE, we the students should be givencollege-level resources, like caring advisors, for the amount of money we pay everysemester. Thank you.88: Find people that are really now what advising means and desire to help students withtheir question.93: quick up the process of being able to see an advisor, get more educated advisorsStudent Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q15: Advising – Page 110
