Q24: WHAT COULD HCC DO TO IMPROVE ITS DISTANCE LEARNING COURSES?CAMPUS = BRANDON21: Just make it more clear that if taking the Distance learning course the books are differentand located on the back wall in the book store.111: Let the student meets with the lecture at least once per month.118: Probably the only decent experience I've had with this school. No complaints about this.135: I think to offer more classes as distance learning. So far I have no complaints, and I havetaken 6 distance learning classes. They are so convenient.173: One of my distance learning teachers did not use WebCT. It was very difficult to knowwhat was going on because of the lack of communication. I eventually dropped the class.195: it is good idea more avaialble courses becuase in the classroom is lost time208: Offer more of them!!!! I could not earn my degree without distance learning courses.Word of warning...I have taken multiple DL courses and can always tell which instructoris new to the system. The workload is extremely more than normal (about 20 hours/week-- honestly). Since instruction is limited in these courses and they are basically selfpacedand self-taught, consideration should be given when creating the syllabus. NewDL teachers should be mentored by veteran DL teachers and base their instruction on thetype of learning environment. Instead, I found new DL teachers being mentored bytraditional teachers in the same subject area. DL students do not have the benefit oflectures or lessons and need more time to research material than traditional students.244: offer a wider variety of them.271: not have courses that really need to be in class courses you really do not learn as much oninternet classes but an independant study works well284: n/a328: Offer a few more common classes as distance learning courses.407: Great for students who dont have that extra time to go sit in the classroom, i can do myassignment when i feel necessary within my deadlines.422: i think it is fine that way that it is, i just wouldnt take one again because i never did any ofthe work.433: I like distance learning courses because I work full time and have children. Distancelearning courses have given me an opportunity to attend college. I don't know what I willdo when I get to the classes that are not offered on-line. I will have to find a way to workit out, but it's hard for me to go to campus. My degree is in Computer InformationAdministration so any of those you can offer on-line is appreciated.463: Nothing, I like the distance learning classes.636: The Distance Learning courses MUST mimic the classroom experience. In the twocourses that I took, I submitted all the work and yet received no feedback as to whether ornow my homework was adequate or where I could improve in my approach to theproblem assigned. The instructor asked questions, which I answered, but did not receiveany response to my answers. For all intent and purpose, I could have read the book anddone the assignments without having to take the class. It was if the instructor was notthere and I did not benefit from her level of education.637: There is not much more they can do except for doing the work and taking the test for thestudents. It is up to the student to stay on top of the work and assignments.Student Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q24: Distance Learning – Page 197
