1390: we wit to long before seeing an advisor. sometimes the advisores don't give us thecomplete information.1393: Instead of having students who don't know what they are doing, have professionals1395: Let you know everything that is needed for a new student.1428: Better (Friendlier, more informative) telephone operators1441: The majority of individuals I spoke with in the admissions office could not answer myquestions regarding my status as an indepent or dependent individual, informationconcerning submission of previous college transcripts, or understand why I did not needto submit SAT scores after I had already received a bachelor degree from a four yearuniversity. I was forced to leave my place in line on 2 seperate occassions one day, and a3rd time on a second day to confer with councelors and financial aid. (Please note that theinformation I attempted to submit on the first occassion was complete.) During each ofthese instances, I confirmed that the documentation I was submitting was accurate;however, the admissions office would not accept my documentation because they "hadnever seen it before". When asking questions, I would not get answers to the questions Iwas asking. This indicated to me that the individuals working in admissions were notcapable of understanding what my c oncerns were as a student. Instead, I was givenattitute and called "Missy". Fortunately I have delt with much worse, but for some of thegirls that were turned away with teas of defeat, I assume that was not the case. I suggestthat each of the individuals in the admissions office undergo a screening in which theyare asked questions concerning proceedures old and new for admission applicaiton andtranscript review. It should not be acceptable that these individuals do not know whathappens to the informaiton that they are collecting, or where a student can find answers totheir questions. They should also be willing to ask someone else if they might be able toanswer a student's quesestion's with more certainty. (Although I requested to speek withsomeone who could better answer my questions, I was given more of a run-around.)Also, I have a more logistical concern. I hold a degree from a 4 year university. At thetime of my registration with HCC, I had not filed my own ta x return independent frommy parents. There are certain logistics surrounding tax incentives for parents supportingchildren during college that made it more beneficial for them to claim me on their taxes. However, I had been living on my own since June, and, in the government's eyes wasautomatically considered an independent because of my 4 year degree. In order to makethis process a bit easier in the future (especially for students who are also applying forfiniancial aid) I suggest that the policies of HCC for dependent/independet status becongruent with those for federal institutions. That way, there are no decepincies when itcomes to filing for federal grants etc.1442: please have more people helping out, as the process is extremely slow.1458: Nothing everything is just fine.1463: I think the admissions process is very easily to do,so I think you should keep up the goodwork.1471: The Admission office work so good1474: Clearly outline the requirements for different classes of students; dual-enrollment, earlyadmission, and other such classifications need to be explained more carefully and more indepth to young students.1510: spend a little more time and be more informative to first time students that don't know thecollege system. It can be intimidating and overwhelming for first time students.Student Satisfaction Survey 2007 – Q3: Admissions – Page 49
