from best practice case studies and implementing these actions into their
lifestyle/business.
18.13 Evasion and Enforcement
The above three Programmes are Voluntary Initiatives which were as a direct results
of the Preventing and Recycling Waste - Delivering Change (2002) policy statement.
Therefore, there are no evasion or enforcement issues.
18.14 Lessons Learned
18.14.1 General Lessons
One of the obvious lessons learned is that measures which seek to provide
information regarding waste prevention and recycling can lead to improved
performance in both respects. The question which logically follows is ‘how can
companies, schools and homes, or any one or more of these groups, be persuaded to
adopt such measures in a more systematic fashion? In other words, can these
‘initiatives’ be made less voluntaristic through fashioning a relevant policy? Such a
policy would, it seems, have the potential to deliver savings to business and society
more generally.
