philosophical arguments. On the other hand, the social-pedagogical group of
research, which developed initiatives between 1999 and 2000, has shared a macro
vision which aims at social development and nature conservation. In other words,
while DaCosta and his followers have been working on sport, leisure and tourism
management emphasizing practical results, the social pedagogical group of research
has been focusing on the behavior of producers of values by means of agents.
In general, these numbers reveal a major tendency related to innovations if
review works, including position papers, are added to works that deal with new
methodological approaches, reaching 58.3% of the technical and scientific
production registered in this indicative sample. If compared with the theory of
Sinclair-Desgagné (1999), this result suggests the existence of an orientation
that is adequate for the development of the production and management of the
scientific-environmental knowledge in sport, leisure and tourism in Brazil.
According to this theory, the research of innovation in the area of environment
permits the identification of selective interventions which create a better and
more comprehensive potential for development. Nevertheless, in order to
consolidate this interpretation in the future, it is necessary to evaluate the quality
of the investigations produced in Brazil in this area of knowledge This will require
more detailed samples and more precise monitoring.
The research works identified for 2006 and 2007 in terms of comparison suggest
that there is a convergence between the two main historical approaches of studies
and research on environment, sport, leisure and tourism in Brazil. Such coincidence
primarily refers to bio-technological management with ethical bases, and in the
second place to a social-pedagogical tendency, of behaviorist and axiological
character. As a matter of fact, the classic anthology “Viagens, lazer e esporte: o
espaço da natureza” (“Trips, leisure and sport: the space of nature”) by Alcyane
Marinho and Heloisa Turini Bruhns (Eds.), São Paulo: Manole, 2006 enlarges the
social-pedagogical focus choosing authors and themes that work with different
viewpoints and biases in the areas of interdisciplinarity, mapping, environmental
impact and participative monitoring. Another example of classic authors resides in
the text of Lamartine P. DaCosta & Cris C. Veerman (2006), published in a book in
Germany about the Winter Olympic Games of Turin, which in spite of keeping itself
within the techno-scientific tradition privileges environmental education and valuesled
attitudes. In general, the texts surveyed for the production 2003 – 2007 seem to
converge to common points of analysis particularly when they approach themes
related to eco-tourism and environmental impacts.
