SUMARY
The altitude, by itself, cannot originate any physical harm. There are strong
evidences that the great majority of the accidents were due to the surpassing of
the possibilities barrier which limits are reduced by the intrinsic conditions of the
altitude’s atmospheric environment; athletes, ignoring the deteriorating
characteristics of the diminished partial pressure of oxygen related to prolonged
efforts, and not yet acclimatized – on a safety degree – would try to perform on
the same rhythm, or in the same proportion, as those condicionated in lower
levels, creating a state of fatigue that would lead them to dismays, vomits,
headaches, nausea, etc. Thus, the problem is only associated with the physical
condition improvement, the adaptation to the particularities of efforts at altitudes
and an adequated acclimatization.
