accelerometer for eight consecutive hours during their usual<br />

working day.<br />

Data Analysis. After being returned, data from the Accelerometer<br />

for each individual was saved onto Micros<strong>of</strong>t Excel S<strong>of</strong>tware and<br />

analysed descriptively using the following definitions.<br />

Sedentary Intensity >0 and ≤ 1.2 kcal/min.<br />

Low Intensity ≥1.3 and ≤ 3.4 kcal/min.<br />

As High intensities Intensity <strong>of</strong> at ≥ least 7 kcal/min<br />

moderate and high intensity calories were summed.<br />

Summary <strong>of</strong> main findings. The final study sample consisted <strong>of</strong><br />

26 staff members, 10 were male and 16 female (see table 2.0).<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essionals represented included Nurses (7) and Doctors (2)<br />

working in diverse fields, Care assistants (1), Porters (1), Dieticians<br />

(1), Social Workers (1), and Maintenance (1), Catering (3) and<br />

Information Technology personnel (1). Also included were<br />

Physiotherapists (1), Radiographers (1), Supplies Officers (1),<br />

Cardiac Technicians (1) and representatives <strong>of</strong> diverse Clerical<br />

/Administration jobs (4).<br />

There was a large variation in the amount <strong>of</strong> work calories<br />

expended in various occupations, in all intensities. There were also<br />

differences between individual subjects with the same occupation.<br />
