The findings reflect the unwritten rules and routines that the<br />

participants learned within the first clinical placement. This shaped<br />

their learning for the remainder <strong>of</strong> the programme. Having<br />

considered the findings <strong>of</strong> the study in the light <strong>of</strong> available<br />

literature related to children’s nursing, implications for nurse<br />

practice and education are explored.<br />

Conclusions<br />

It is envisioned that the findings will illuminate this area <strong>of</strong> nursing<br />

education and will contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> post<br />

registration children’s nurse education where a quality clinical<br />

learning environment can be pursued.<br />
