Abstract<br />

Background and context:<br />

Simulation <strong>of</strong> mass-casualty incidents is a common way for<br />

interdisciplinary response teams to develop and refine triage,<br />

prioritization, collaboration, and patient management skills.<br />

Pr<strong>of</strong>essional nurses who work in acute and critical care settings are<br />

expected to continually triage and prioritize patient needs,<br />

collaborate effectively with healthcare providers and appropriately<br />

delegate nursing care responsibilities to support staff. Although<br />

didactic instruction is important in developing these skills, it is<br />

limited in its ability to prepare students for real time problem<br />

solving. Practicing prioritization and delegation skills in the hospital<br />

setting during clinical instruction is also useful, but variations in<br />
