Background
The current study is based on the secondary analysis of qualitative
data collected during the interviews for the exploratory Family
Support Study (Kartalova-O’Doherty et al., 2006). Participants of
the Family Support Study (N=38) were carers and relatives of
persons with enduring mental illness, recruited via family support
groups and mental health services.
Aims
The main purposes of the current study were to identify the key
constituents related to the reported satisfaction with family
services, and to establish what kind of services were considered
effective by families.
Methods
Post hoc grounded theory coding (Strauss & Corbin 1998) and
thematic content analysis (Hansen 2006) were used for the
exploration of the narratives and validation of the identified themes
and codes.
