School of Nursing & Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin: 8 th Annual Interdisciplinary Research Conference
Transforming Healthcare Through Research, Education & Technology: 7 th – 9 th November 2007
Conference Proceedings
From a constructivist philosophy, this poster will present an
assessment of the usefulness of the cognitive information
processing approach in both the classroom and clinical setting, to
understand how student nurses can acquire and store information
and recall it from memory, with the overall aim of adapting teaching
strategies to enhance deep meaningful learning.
Particular attention will be paid to one domain of learning, memory,
and its two salient functions, encoding and retrieval. The process of
attention will be referred to briefly. Some teaching strategies,
which can influence the processing of information to enhance deep
meaningful learning within nurse education, will be explored.
