associated sense taken in one view as ‘big’ or<br />

‘leader, boss’, giving ‘one who becomes leader’<br />

(Katō, Ogawa). Another view takes the associated<br />

sense of as ‘senior male’, giving ‘eldest<br />

among brothers’, or ‘uncle older than one’s<br />

father’, and by extension ‘leader of various<br />

lords’ (Tōdō). For latter sense, ‘count’ is a conventional<br />

translation-equivalent; Schuessler<br />
