Naffau part of Mehrenberg^ a third of the county of Saariverden and a part
of Homburg. WiUia?n Lewis, of Nußlm-Saarbruck, left three fons, viz.
yohn Lewis of Ottweile?-., Gußavus Adolphus of Saarbruck, and Walrath of
JJßngen ; the two fons of the firfl, Frederick Lewis and Charles Lewis, died
without heirs in 1723 and 1728; but the fon of the third, namely, JFil-
Uam Henry, Prince of Najfau-Ußngen, left two fons, who were the founders
of the two prefent ruling lines ; namely, Prince Charles ©f the Naßliu-
Baarbruck-XJfmgen, and Prince William Henry of that of Naßau-Saarbruck-
Saarbruck. On the 2T^do{ September 1735, a partition was agreed on betwixt
them, by which the laft gave to the former all the inherited and
efcheated land on this fide the Rhine, and to the latter thofe lying on the other
fide of that river.
It was alfo determined, that thefe two parcels of land fhould not be any
further divided among the defcendants on either fide,

The offspring oiOtho I. and the partitions made among them are fpecified
above.
At prefent the only remaining line of the defcendants of Otho, is that of
Najßiu-Dillenburg-Dietz, which fliles itfelf of Orange, and is hereditary
Stadtholder of the United Netherlajids.
§. 3. Of the principal line oi Walram, 'JohnY. was created a Prince by
the Emperor Charles lY. fo early as the year 1365; but his defcendants
termed themfelves only counts. In the year 168B, the Emperor Leopold
ratified the grant of the dignity of Prince to that line, on which Walrath of
Naßau-Ufingen, George Augußiis oi Naßau-Idßein, and, laftly, alfo in 1737,
Charles Augußus of Nafißau-Weilburg affumed the fame, which by the firil:
and lafl: has been tranfmitted to their defcendants.
Of the Otho chief line the firft Princes were "John Lewis of Naß'au-Hadamar,
Lewis Henry of Naßciu-Dillenbiirg, Willia?n Frederick of Naßdii-
Dietz,
and John Francis and Williatn Maurice of Naß'au- Siegen.
The title of the Princes of the old Walram line is, Prince oi' Najfim, Count
of Saarbruck and Saarwerden, and lords of Lahr-Wisbaden and Idßein.
Their arms are for Naßliu, with a lion topaz in a field faphire femee of
billets topaz ; for the county of Saarbruck, Azur a lion ^ptzxXßemee of crofslets
pearl; for the county of Saarwerden, diamond a fpread-eagle argent
for Mors, topaz a fefs diamond ; for Weilnau, topaz two leopards pafTant
ruby; for Melrrenberg, emerald a falfire crofs topaz femee with croislets
topaz ; for Mahlberg, topaz a Won fable ; for Latjr, topaz on a fefs ruby.
The younger branch of the Otho family depends wholly at prefent on
Prince William V. of Orange, and Stadtholder of the United Provinces,
whofe title, with refpect to the Naffau territories, is that of Prince of
Naß'au, Count of Katze?ieIlnbogen, Finnen and Dietz, and Lord oi Beilßtin;
