inverted with full power. The opening of the Sovereign's propofition
happens ordinarily in the Sovereign's prefence, in a hall in the eleöoral
palace. If during the provincial grant any v/eighty matters occur which
admit of no delay, or even other matters, have continued undifcuffed at
provincial Diets J
Diets of fcledion, deputations and conventions are held,
which are ordinarily appointed every two years. Seledions are made out
of the three provincial claßes, and are termed the lefler or greater. The
lelTer feleftion of the nobility confifts of forty-two perfons, who prefide ar
two boards, at which the Stadtholder of the bailiwick of T^fo/r/w^/Vz and the
commandatory of Grifliadt have both feat and voice. The other forty perfons
are, live out of the eleftoral circle, including the hereditary-marflial ;
eleven out of the circle of Thuringia ; fix out of that of Meifen ; feven out
oixh'iXo'i Leipzig ; one out of the foundation o^ JFurzen ; four out of the
Erzgebirg; four out of the circle of the Vogtland, and two out of that of A'iv^ßadt.
By thislelTer feledtion others are chofen out of the greater one of the
nobility, according to the above-mentioned circles, in order to fill up the
place of the deputed ; and after the nomination made by the Sovereign, are
confirmed as fuch by his privy-council. The greater felecftion comprehends
in it fixty perfons, at which at the fame time appear the deputies of the
Counts and Lords of Schonhurg. The deputed perfons are nominated out
of the nobility in general and the circles by the lefler feledlion, each circle
having therein the following : inz. the elefloral circle fix j that of T^bwingia
fifteen ; that of MeiJJcn nine ; that of Leipzig ten ; the foundation of
IVurzen two ; the circle of the Erzgebirg fix ; that of the Fogf/and eighty
and that of Neujhdt four. The dignity of hereditary-marflial is hereditary
in the noble houfe of Lojcr of the houfe of Salis, and muft properly be referred
to the eledloral circle, that circle being the prefiding one. If at any
time the hcreditary-marflial happen to be a minor, the oldefi: of the family
bears the dircclorimn in his flead. The archives of the province are alio
committed to the carcof the hereditary-marflial, and in thefe are kept the
original records. In the three archives of the circles of Thuringia, Meiffen,
the Erzgebirg and the Vogtland are kept only the \:id!?mis copies of the
original records which are to be found in the principal archives. Laflly,
with refpect to the feleöion of the towns, to the lefier feic(ftion appertains
Leipzig, which bears the direBoriitm as well here as throughout the whole
of the towns, Wittenberg, Drejden and Zicickau, \^hich four are the prefiding
towns, Freyberg, Chenmilz, Langenfalze and Torgau : To the greater
feleöion, Annaberg, which alfo bears the dire^oriiim, Weiffenfch^ Mcijjen,
Eidenbu7g, Hayn, IVciJJcnJce, Herzberg, Schniedeberg, Scbneeberg, Liebeniverde,
which at the towns is poffelTcd of the right of convocation, Marienherg.
