Madenhaufen. The Imperial villages of Gochßjeim and Semifcid, which
belonged to the Imperial vogtey or amtmanihip, have been diipoled of to the
bifliopric of Wurzbnrg.

I. Of the town itfelf.
"VXT EI S S E NBURG en the Nordgau, in ancient records alfo called

WizeJiburch, lies in the neighbourhood of the fort of Wuhburg belonging
to the Marggrave of Onolzbach, being furrounded by the Onohbach
upper-prefedturate of Gutizenhaufen and the county of Pappenheim. The
prevailing religion here is the Lutheran., and it contains two churches. In
it alfo is a mineral bath. The rife and firft commencement of its Imperial
freedom is not known. In 1262 it was befieged by Duke Lewis of Bavaria,
by whom it was taken and burnt, and laid level with the ground.
In 13 14 it was mortgaged by the Emperor Lewis to the bifhopric oi Eic/jßett,
and in 1325 by the fame to the Burggraves of Nürnberg, but it redeemed
itfelf again, and upon that obtained of the Emperors Charles IV. and lVe?7zel
in the years 1360 and 1387 aflurances that it Ihould never be mortgaged
again, but be kept annexed to the Empire. At the Diet of the Fmpire
it poflefTes the thirtieth place and voice in the college of Imperial cities
on the Swabian bench, and at the circle of Franconia the fifth or lafl on
the bench of the Imperial cities. To a Roman month it contributes
thirty-four florins, and to each chamber-term thirty-three rixdollars, feventyfive
kruitzers.
2. Of its territory.
Of the ancient Imperial adminiflration here over what is filled the
royal villages, which the town of Weiffenbiirg was pofTefTed of as an Imperial
mortgage, mention has been made above under the bifliopric of
Eich/lett. In the fame place it alfo has been fliown that the town retained
only Wengen of thefe royal villages, but ceded the refl by agreement
in 1680 to the bifhopric of Eich/lett. This village of }Vengen is
furrounded by the Onolzbach upper-prefedurate of Siauff'.
