of the circle is ftill in vogue here and filled up.
§. 6. In point of religion this circle is one of the mixed. To the
chamber-judicatory of the Empire it prefents one Äowöw-catholic and one
Proteftant afleflbr. The death of the former is notified by the chamber
to the i?c:;«^;z-catholic, and that of the latter to the Proteftant fummoningoffice
of the circle : The
latter notifies to the circle the director of the
bench of Counts and cities of the Empire, and at the fame time propofes
one or two perfons. The States deliberate thereon, and cither fimply receive
the perfons propofed, or add another, making a declaration of it by
the diredors of both benches to the princely proteftant fiimmoning-office
of the circle. Upon which at length, after an alternately adminiftered fupport
on the fide of the fupreme Proteftant diredlory, a common prefentation
and refponfory writing is addrefled to the chamber-court, and tranfmitted
to the diredors of the bench of Counts and Imperial cities for their fubfcription
and figning. Upon this the prefentation-writing is either direftly
fent by the direäory of the Imperial cities, which at length fubfcribe it, to
the chamber-court, or returned to be tranfmitted to the fummoning Princes
of the circle. If the three benches of the fecular States of Franconia are
not able to come to an agreement concerning the prefentation, each bench
apart fometimes prefents a candidate, one of whom is chofen by the
chamber-court.

§. 2. To the north it terminates on the principality of Coburg and the
Vogtland, to the eafton the marggravial principality of Brandenburg-Bayreuth
above the Gebirg, and alfo on the territory of Nürnberg ; to the
fouth likewife on the territory of Nurtiberg, the marggravial principality
of Brandenburg below the Gebirg, and the principality of Scbivarzenberg
; and to the weft on the biftiopric of Wurzburg. Its greateft extent
amounts in length to about fifteen, and its greateft breadth to above
ten, German miles.
§. 3. The bottom or foil of this bifhopric produces all forts of grain, vegetables,
and fruits in abundance, as alfo wine :
