King Frederick William eredled this chamber in 1723, and in 1743
the two departments of which it at firft confifted were united. 10. The
fupreme L-vz/'dr^T« contiftory, which was erecfted in 1750, and is employed
in filling up the places of preachers and fchoolmafters, as alio in the examination
of fuch as are propofed as candidates for that purpofe. This confiftory
is likewife confulted on the filling up of the theological chairs at the roval
univerfities. 11. The diredlory of the CahirSjl church, which was
founded in 1713, and takes cognizance of the concerns of the feveral Calmniß
churches in the royal countries, 12. The war-confiftory. 13. The
pupil college of the eledoral Mark, which being appointed for the tutelage
of minors, audits their accompts and provides for the fecure lodgment of
their capitals. 14. The fupreme medicinal college, which obtained this
title in 1725. 15. The fupreme mine-office, which was eredted in 1705.

The French nation have an upper and under judicatory of their
own, as alfo their own revifion -tribunal, fupreme confilfory and fupreme
diredlory, which is ftiled the CoJifeil Francois,
§. 13. With refped to affairs of police, the feveral towns here fland under
the tax-councils, of which there are in general ten throughout the
whole Mark; and the flat country under its provincial-councils, butthefe lafl
again under the v/ar and domain-chambers.
§. 14. The fourcesof the royal revenues ariling from the Mark are, The
royal domain-office, together with the forefts, pofls, mines, mints, faltofhces,
charges, ftamp-paper, ftamped cards, fervice, excife, impofls upon
beer and grinding, or the bu(hel-tax, the war and grinding meafure, tolls,
protedlion- money paid by ihe Jr^i.n, the contribution, or tax on hides, of
land and houfes, and the new beer money. Thefe feveral revenues are coiledled
into different chcfls ; as, namely, into thofe of the exchequer, or
domain-cheft, the general poft chefl, general falt-chefl:, charge-cheff,
fervice-chtft, upper tax-chefl:, and, laftiy, likewife into the general domain
and general war-chefts. The fum total of the yearly revenues arifing from
the Mark are eflimated at about two millions and a half of crowns.
§. 15. In the Mark are flationed a confiderable part of the FniJIan
troops in time of peace, and therein in particular at Berlin, as ihall be
fhewn below under the defcription of that royal city ; but for the whole of
the Frußan troops the fubjoine.l remark is to be confulted.
§. 16. The Mark oi Branctcnbiirg is divided, in general, into the eledoral
and New-Marks. The eledoral Mark comprizes in it the Old-Mark, the
Prigiiitz, the Middle-Mark and the Ucker-Mark. Thefe Marks, or provinces,
are again divided into circles, and over each is placed a land-council.
Remarks
