5. The royal villages, or the ancient Imperinl adminiftratlon of the
royal villages, vv^as held by the old Counts of Jiirfckberg in fief of the
holy Roman Empire. On their extindion it reverted again, in 1305,
thereto, and afterwards, for many years, was granted for life to fcveral
noblemen, who deferved well of it. The Imperial adminiftrators here had
their refidence in the Imperial city of We'ufenburg, to v.'hich this Imperial
adminiftration, with all its high and low jurifdiction, was mortgaged, in
the year 1530, by the Emperor Charles V. In 1629, the city was obliged
to cede this adminiftration, at the Imperial command, to the bidiopric of
Eichjlett ; but by the peace of Wefiphalia it arrived again to the polleihon
thereof J
in which polTefTion it continued till the year 16S0, when an Imperial
commiffion mediated, that the Imperial city of Wcijfenburg Hiouid,
of the villages belonging to this Imperial adminidration, retain JVcngeii,
but cede the refi: to the bilhopric oi Eichjlett on its refunding the mortgage
upon it. The villages appertaining to the bifliopric are Kahldorf , Tetenbiich
and Byburg, together vt'ith the hamlet of the Holy Crofs.
VI. The upper, or adminiftratory-prefedturate of Uppkr-Meszing : to
which belongs,
1. Upper-Mcfzing, a citadel, Handing on a mountain, with a village belonging
to it. This place was purchafed, in 1465, of the Teutonick order
for the fum of 1 1700 florins.
2. Jeteiihofen, a citadel, which, in the year 1587, reverted to the
bilhopric as a fupprefled fief. At this place is an under amt-office.
3. Burggriesbiich and Lauterbach, two citadels, which were diipofed of,
in the year 1398, to the bilhopric for the fum of 14600 florins.
4. T^annhaujen, an eftate purchafed by the bilhopric in 1398.
VII. The upper, or adminiftratory-prefedturate of Dolnstein : to
which belongs,
1. Dolnjfein, a citadel and fmall town, lying on the Altmuhl^ and which,
after the extindlion of the Counts of Hirfchberg, came to the Counts of
Octtingen, from whom it defcended to the Lords of Heydeck, and from
them to William of Rechberg, from which laft it came, in 1440, for the fum
of 3000 florins, to the bifliopric.
2. Merrißmm, a village, in which is an under amt-oflice.
VIII. The upper, or ad min illratory-prefeä urate of Nasse nf els, whicli

is among tiie very firft poiTeffions of the bifliopric. In it is,
1. Nciffenfeh, a citadel and borough, feated in the diftridl in which once
ftood the town of Aureatiim.
2. The villages of Muhlhaufen, Meckeiilohe znd Buchß:etm. At the lafl:
of thefe places the Eledlor oi Bavaria held, in the year 1749, the prefidicalcourt
of the county of Hirfchberg under the open {ky.
