Marburg laid down the mortgage money, and thus held, on redemprion, the
Mentz fliare of the lordlhip o^ liter. In the year 1589, he alfo purchafed
for 7000 guilders that p.irt of the lordlhip of which the family of Lowenßein,
and afterwards thofe of Gogi-eben, had been proprietors, which included
the Stenerberg and the village of ///'fr; and in 1590, he bou'^lit-of
the counts of Waldeck for 1600 Spaniß) dollars, or Rhenijh gold guilder?,
one half of the parilh of Eitnelrode, with fome other revenues. Of the fief
of iL'er, which is dependant on Corvt'y abbey, ihe Wolfs o( Guik'iberg, and
the family of Malsburg obtained the reverfion in 1441 ; and on the death
oi Eraf/iius oi Itter lucceeded to the poffelTion, holding it even to this day.
The arms of Itter are a triangular Ihield with a crovvned lion rampant, the
tongue projeding and the tail ereft, the whole being furmounted with aa
open helmet, and having for its crell: a ftag's head.
The lordfhip of Itter at prefent conftitutes a prefedurefliip, to which
belong the following pariilies and places, namely,
1. The parilh of Fo/)/, containing
Vohl, a market-village flanding on the river Afcl or E/t/, being the feat
of the prefecturate, as alfo of a metropolitan. The Landgrave George the
Mediator^ having been appenaged with the lordlhip of Itter, refided in the
feat ereded here in the year 1665.
Bajdorf, Afel or Efel, and Marienhagen, properly Merbenhagen, all villages.
2. The parilli of Obernburg, in v/hich are the remains of the old caftle
of Itter, the original patrimony of the lords of Itter; the village of Thai-
Itter, together with the village of Itter, ftanding both on the river Itter,
as alfo the village ot Obernburg, having formerly a caftle.
Near Itter caftle formerly flood a fortrefs named Steuerburg.
3. The mine-town of Thal-Itter, near the village ofthat name; the
charter of which was beflowed on it by Rrnejl Leivis the Landgrave. This
place has a particular church of its own lately eroded there, together with
a paftor, who is paid by the officers and others belonging to its rich copper
mine. It is alfo a mine-amt of the Prince's.
4. The parifhes of Kirchlotheim, comprehending the villages of Kirchlotheim,
Schmidtlotheim, Altlotheim, Herzßiaufen, Harbßoaufen and Buchenberg,
anciently Buchcmer.
5. The village of Lcwer-Orken, which is incorporated with the parifli of
XJpper-Orken, in the territories of Heße-Cajfel.
6. The parifh of Upperiverbe, in the village of the fame name, lies on
the little
river Werba.
7. The parifli of Horinghaufen is diftind from the former, being wholly
furrounded by the Waldeck lands. It confifts of the village of Horinghaufen,
and a diflrid which is two hours in length. In this village the family of
Wolf have a feat, with fome jurifdidion.
8. The parilli of Eimelrode lies four hours north-wefl from the other
pariflies
