and likevvife refiding there and at Sangerbmifen. His widow Agnes, fiftcr
to the Emperor Lcwii of Bavaria, refided for a confiderable time in thefc
parts, as being her jointure ; and Sophia, daughter to them both, was married
in 1328 or 132g to Düko. Magnus of Bninßvich, who thereby obtained
Landsberg, Sangerhanfen, and other citadels and places. But in 1347 he
difpofed of the citadels of Landsherg and Ahenhof to the A'larggrave Fredederick
oi Meijjen, in 1369 mortgaged Sangerhaiijen to the Marggraves, and
in 1372 ceded it to them. The Marggraves of /kfw/^'iv, indeed, bore the
mark of Landsberg for fome time in their title, but at length dropped it.
notwithftanding which, both they, as well as their fucceßbrs the Eledors and
Dukes of 6'rtxo«)', retained the arms thereof, confifting of two bars ^x:?/;r,
drawn longitudinally downwards (which bars are alfo confidercd as balks
and piles) in a field Or. It is to be obferved, that Landsberg again lofl the
title of a marggravate, and was only ftiled a noble feigniory ; which, according
to Horns conjedlure, either -arofe from hence, namely, that the
towns and citadels fituate in the marggravate of Landsberg were again gradually
torn from it, and the adminiflration thereof more clofely united with
the marggravate of Meijfen ; or that it was done on purpofe in order to deprefs
Landsberg, and thereby exalt Meijfen, to which laft the marggraval
dignity was referved.
3. Dobernitz, Freyroda, Glefzien, Gohna, Oßrau, Sieizfih, Zfchcj-mfz,
Zchortaii, all parochial-villages with noble eflates.
III. The prefedlurate of Zorbig, containing in it fix immediate vafials
and thirteen villages. From the year 1656 to 1738 this prefedlurate alfo
belonged to the Merjeburg collateral line of the eletSloral houfe of Saxony.
In it is,
1. Zorbig, commonly called Littk-Zerbß and ZippeJ-Zerbß, a town
under immediate vaflalage, and confifting of about four hundred and fifty
dwelling-houfes. To the fouth-fide of it ftands a citadel which is feparated
by a ditch from the town, and contains in it a chapel ; and in
this citadel Duke Augußtis refided from 1692 to 17 15, after which
his widow and daughter made it their place of refidence. Near the citadel
is a noble eftate under immediate vaflalage, and which ever fince the year
1562 has belonged to the council. In this town alfo anciently was aburggravate,
and Count Theodorick, of the line of Buzici, which flourifhed till
982, inherited the C2iiWto^ Zurbici, or Zorbig, from his parents. In 15 18,
16 10, i6i6 and 1647, this place fuffered gready by fire.
2. Spohren, a parochial-village and nobleman's eftate. With the church
here is
incorporated the eftate of Prußendorf.
3. ^letz, a parochial-village and nobleman's eflate belonging to the
family of Mollendorf.
