BAVARIA.
The Electorate of
jUKE Albert caufed a fmall map of the dutchy of Bavaria to be
drawn by Philip Apian, which map was publifhed in the year 1561,
and likewife in i 566 a larger one of twenty-four plates, which was never
made public. The laft of thefe two charts have been reduced to a fmaller
lize by "Janfon and others, but particularly by the younger Vißcher, who
has divided his two flieet map which was contrafted from it into the
bjiilivvicks, and the fame has been done by Homann with fome improvements.
Thefe maps conftitute the feventy-nxth and feventy-fcventh in the^/Zoiof
Germany. In the year 1684 George Philip Fink alfo publifhed a large map
of the circle and dutchy of äz^wm with an index to it. The country
about Munich was exhibited on a fingle map, which was publiflied by Hamanns
heirs in the year 1743, and conflitntes the feventy-ninth in the At/as
of Germany. Erhard Reych put out the firft map of the upper palatinate in
the year 1 540, and after him Viffcher and Ho?nann, not to mention others,
alfo publiflied a map of the fame. The lafl: of thefe conftitutes the feventyeighth
in the Atlas of Germany. Of the diftriös of Neumark belonging to
the upper palatinate Nik. Ritterhufz has delineated a very good map, which
is to be feen in Tom. Ill, of Blaeu% Atlas.
§. 2. This eletflorate comprehending in it all the ecclefiaftical and temporal
ftates of the circle of Bavaria, the limits of the circle are in effedl alfo
its boundaries ; but the other lands belonging to the circle, which lie on
the fide of the eledorate, are divided from it, and in it is only to be feen
the parts terminating weftward on Sivabia, Franconia, and the dutchy of
Neuhurg and Sulzbach ; thofe terminating fouthward on the 'Tyrolefe, the
county of IVerdetiJels, the lordfliip of Hohe?iivaldeck, the archbifliopric of
Salzburg, and the abbey of Berchtolfgaden j thofe terminating to the eaftward
on Upper-Außria, the bifliopric of Pajfau and the kingdom of Bohemia,
and thofe alfo terminating northward on Bohemia and Franconia.
This circuit, however, comprifes in it feveral entire countries of the circle,
