GERMANY. [Hanau-Munz
two thirds of a place of this name, and in 1645 procured alfo two thirds
of this to be granted to him ; on which, in 1649, he purchafed the other
third of Count Frederick Cqfimir. His defcendants difpofed of it to the
barons of Ingelheim ; but, in the year 1741, the Landgrave William VIII.
of Heße-Cciß'l, demanded, as adlual count of Hanau-Munzenherg, the reftitution
of the two ceded thirds ot Holzhaiifeti, purfuant to a claufe in the
treaty of Weßphalia, and immediately put himfelf in pofTeffion thereof.
6. The prefedurate of Dorheim, confifting of four towns and villages
;
-viz.
Dorheijn, a town, feated on the Wetter^ and purchafed hereditarily in
the year 1578 oi Chriflopher, count oi Stolberg and Konigßein. The barons
of H)lfzhaufe}it have an eftate here.
Nauheim^ a town, containing fait-works of confiderable value. In the
year 1436, the houfe of ü/zw« were fovereigns of this place, but, in 1478,
purchafed the whole of the convent of 5^%d77/W/ J as alfo, by degrees, the
fait- works, betwixt the years 1566 and 1590, from the falt-company
fince which it hath made fuch improvements in them, that, though
wood is there in no great plenty, and no fait made in winter, yet it produces
yearly 30,000 achtels, or about 4000 bufliels.
