III. Into the circle of Ohei'hariiwi^ which comprizes in it
ninety-two villages, and contains,
1. Brietzen, alfo called Wrietzen, the capital thereof fituated.not far
from the Oder, on which a toll is coUecfted at this place. Brietzen is alfo
the feat of a fpiritual infpeftion. In 1433 this town was entirely reduced
to aflies by the Hußtes. In 1663 it fuffered great damage by fire, and in
1664 was almoft deflroyed again by the fame dreadful calamity.
2. Straufbergy a town, taking its name from the little lake of S>train
near it, the length of which is computed at full a quarter of a German
mile. In this lake are filli of a very good flavour. The inhabitants are
for the moft part clothiers, and fupply a great part of the army with bays.
At this place is alfo a fpiritual infpedion. In the year 1402 it was burnt
by the Pomeranums and ^itzauem. In i 521 it likewife fuffered by fire.
3. Neußadt-Kberjwalde^ a town feated on the river and canal of
Tino, Fine, or Vine, of which an account has been already given. Cn
it at this place is a lock of freeftone for the navigation of boats, and
fluice-toUs are alfo paid here. The town itfelf confifts of two parts, of
which that lying towards the hill of Drachenkopf, and containing in it the
church and town-houfe, is called Eberfivalde ; the name of that on the

Finn is Neußadt. In the year 175
"built a particular fuburb of eighty houfes for the accommodation of fuch
cutlers as fhould come and fettle here. At the Vnterthor the Finona is
joined by the Schwarze.
A little way off too at Hegermuhle are copper and tin-works. The copper
worked in thefe is not the produdl of the Mark, but is brought from Rothenburg
in the circles of Saal in the dutchy of Magdeburg. Here are alfo
b:afs-works with two foundaries for black and white tin-plates, and an iron
and wire forge, all which feveral works lie on the Finoio.
4. The royal prefedlurate of Biesenthal, which formerly belonged
to the Arnim family, who were in poffeflion of one half thereof before the
year 1427, and in that year made an abfolutc purchafe of the other half
from Matthias oiVchtenhagen. But in 1577 the Sovereign conferred fome
other lands on the above-mentioned family in lieu of the faid prefedturate.
In it

1 Biejmthal, a fmall town having a caftle. This town lies on the Fitio,
which at this place firft receives that name, and takes its rife out of fome
marflies in thefe parts, but more particularly out of four lakes.
