the country, by which divifion the eledloral houfe of Saxony obtained the
fliare it is poffefled of at this day. Duke Frederick William II. founder of
the line of Altenhurg^ obtained the towns and amts of Meinungen, Mafzfeld,
and TIjemar, as alfo the vogtey of Behrungen and other places for his
Ihare ; which places, after the death of his fon Duke Frederick William III.
which happened in 1672, fell to Duke Erncfl III. founder of the line of
Gotha, and after his death were divided in fuch a manner between his third
and fourth fons Bernhard and Henry, that the former obtained Meinungen^
Mafzjeld, Wafitngcn, Sand, Breitungen, and Salziingen ; the latter, Roj7ihi!d,
Behrungen, Thetnar, and other places. Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Meinungen
tranfmitted his country hereditarily to his fon Duke Rrneß Lewis, and
the latter alfo to his fon Duke Antony Ulrich. Duke Erneß of Romhild dying
without heirs in the year 17 10, his fliare of the country fell to the
princely houfes of Meinungen, Gotha, Saaljeld, and Hildburghaufen. Duke
William oi Saxe-Weimar obtained in the divifion of 1660 the prelent
Weimar fliare in this princely county ; which was, indeed, divided among
the lines of Weimar and Eifenach, which were defcended frcm him : But
in 1741, the latter of thefe lines becoming extincft, it fell again entirely to
the former. At prelent the princely county of Hemieberg has the following
Lords for its polfeßbrs, namely, the Eledtor of Saxony, the Dukes of Saxe-
Weimar, Meinungen, Gotha, Coburg-Saaljeld, and Hilburghaujen, and the
Landgrave oi Hejfe-Cajfel.
§. 8. The above-mentioned Saxon Dukes bear this country in their titles,
in as much as on account of their feveral {hares therein, they ftile themfelves
princely Counts of Henneberg. The armorial fliield of Henneberg is divided
into four fields. In the firft and fourth is a pillar crowned in a field
gules, and in the fecond and third a hen fable, with red comb and creft,
placed on a mount verte, in a field Or. The Dukes of Saxony, after the
extincflion of the princely male line of Henneberg, adopted the Henneberg
hen into their armorial Ihield.
§. 9, At the Diet of the Empire in the council of Princes thereof
is, on account of the princely county of Henneberg, one voice,
which is alternately poiTefied by the Eleclor of Saxoiiy and the Dukes of
Saxe-Weimar and Hildburghaufen. At the Diets of the circle oi Franconia,
on account thereof, are three voices on the bench of Princes, which are
called the Henneberg-Schleufingen, the Hennebog-RotJihild, and Henneberg-
Schmalkdden voice. In the beginning of the fixteenth century the billiopric
of V/urzburg wanted, on account of the eftates formerly belonging to
Hennebcrg which it is in pofltflion of, to have alio a voice in the circle, but
was not able to procure one. The Imperial and circular matricular evaluation
of this country amounts to one hundred and ninety florins, which
evaluation is divided in fuch a manner that the Eledlor of Saxony on account
of Schleufmgeny contributes thereto the fum of forty-feven florins,
