Its yearly fair, v/hich begins on the 29th of J^Iy, or on St. Peter and
St.'Ptrul, enjoys very confiderable privileges. In the years 1336, 1446,
.1457, 1463, 1505, J517, 1532, iyi^, and 1 71 6, this place luftained
crreat damage by fire. To the town belongs the village of Rodichen.
Of the liberty, which comprizes in it the cathedral-church, the cathedral-fchool,
and divers Burghers houfes, which ftand all together under
the jurifdiäion of the chapter. Under the jurifdioion of the provoftfhip is,
Oßerfetd, a fmall town fituated betwixt No.iimburg and Zeitz.
2. The prefedurate of St. Georgenkloster, which has arifen outof
the eftates of the fupprefled Bmeditline monaftery at St. Georgen, which
flood on a little mountain before the town of Naumburg. This monaftery
was founded in the beginning of the eleventh century, and laid wafte ia
J 532 by a fire, as alfo in 1547 by the Spaniards, and in 1637 by the /«zperiaiijis.
On the death of its laft abbot the EledVor John Frederick caufed
this cioyfter, as well as that of St. Maurice to be feized, upon which the
other buildings were pulled down. To its prefecturate belong the parochial-villages
of Great-Jena (formerly called Deutjch-Jena) Little-Jena formerly
called alfo Wcndijch-T'ena) Schelfitz, or Zjchelfitz, Nieäerholzhaujeny
Zorbau, Kretzjchau, Cifelitz, and Abt-Lohnitz.
3. The prefedturates of Schonburg and Saaleck, which are united
-xvlth that of St. George. To the former belongs the parochial-village of
Scbc?iburg, as alfo the village of Pojfenbayn, in which is a filial-church, C^c.
To the latter belong the parochial-villages of Saaleck, Lacbjted, Little-
Hcringen and Puntjchrau.
