die of the fourteenth century alienated this town ; at which time one half
of it came to the Landgraves oi Thuringia, and afterwards the whole of it.
In the years 148^, I ^o5, 1662, and 171 r, it fuffered great damage by fire.
'Tbamß^rtick, vulgarly called Thomaßmck, and othervvife alfo Thunghbruck^
or Tbingsbruck, a fmall town, lying on the Unßrut, and having both feat
and voice at the Provincial Diets, as alio a citadel, and above two hundred
houfes. In 142 1 this place was endowed with town-privileges and freedom.
At it was formerly an amt-office. In the year 1335
it was laid wafte by
the Counts oi Erfurt, and in 1632 fet on fire by the ImperiaUjh.
The commandery of Nageißadt, or Negelßett, which is alfo otherwife
called Neiljktt, belongs to the bailiwick of Thuririgia of the Teutonick
order. The parochial-village of this name lies on the Utißrut, containing
in it about one hundred and fifty-fix houfes, and the upper part thereof
belongs to the prefeclurate of Langetijalza , but the lower to the commandery
jurifdiclion here. In 17 15 fixty-two dwelling-houfes were burnt
down at this
place.
Great-Gottern, or B'iß:of% Göttern, a confiderable market-town, containing
two churches, a foundation and a hofpital, and which in 159B loft no
lefs than one hundred and forty-three houles by fire, exclufive of barns
and ftables.
Old-Gottern, containing two parifli-churches, Cammerforß, Clettftadt,
Freyenhejzingen, Henningßeben., Little or JVenigen-Vargula, Merxleben, Mulverßadt,
at which is a cloyfter, Neunhellingen, Opperß:iaufen, Schonßadt,
containing two parifli-churches ; Seebach, Ußhoven, Weberßedt, and ZaunrodcUy
all church-villages with noble eftates.
12. The prefedurate of Wendelstein, in which is
Wendelilein, a ruinous citadel, containing a chapel and a manor, and
ftanding on a mountain not far from the U?idrut. At this place is a ftud
ofhorles belonging to the Eleftors. The hmWy oi JFitzlebeti were long
poffdTed of this citadel, and from them it came by way of mortgage to
the family of Hcfzler in the year 1626, in lieu of the fum of 86,500
florins j whic'.i family ceded their right therein to the Eleftor jGh?i George I.
who in 1656 obtained it entirely by a ftipulation.
And eight villages.
13. The prefefturate of Sittichenbach, which borders on the county
of Mansjeld, arofe out of what was formerly an abbey of Ciftercian.
Monks, and was alfo called Sichern. This abbey was founded by the abbey
of fFalkenried, and in 1141 honoured with its firfl abbot, but in 1547 was
laid waftc, and then fecularized. From the Counts of Mamjeid it came
to the tledoral houfe oiSaxojiy, and though ceded hereditarily by that houfe
to Le-a:is of Wurni, yet after his death it reverted again to the Elcdlor 'John
George I. To this prefefturate belong the villages oi Sittichenbach, Rothen-
Scbirmhach, Great and Little-Ofterhaiifin, having parifh-churches.
