§.2. The inhabitants here are partly of the Proteftant Lutheran, and
partly of the Romißj church.
§. 3. The anceftors of the prefect Princes o^ Schwarzefiberg were originally
ftiled Lords of Sejr:ßeim. Thefe Lords came to be divided into the
lines of Seivßiem and Schivarzenberg, the former of which was firft
raifed to the dignity of Baron, and afterwards to that of Count, and
flouriihes flill in Bavaria. The latter procured that other country in Fran-
CDuia, and in 14 17 was raifed to the dignity of Baron, in 1566 to that of
Count of the Empire, and in 1671 to the ftate of Prince, which princely
dignity Jcfeph Adam obtained in 1747
for all his pofterity. Thefe Princes
alfo are poffeffed of the princely landgravate of Klettgau, of the feigniory
of Gimborn and Neußadt, of the dutchy of Crumau and fcteral feigniories
in Bohemia, (fee Vol. iv. p. 82, 85, C^c. and alfo in Stiria, (fee Vol. iv.
P- 475-
§. 4. The title of the reigning Prince is, Prince of Schwarzenberg, of
the holy Roman Empire princely LanJgrave in the Klettgau, Count of Su]z,
Duke of Crumau, and Lord of Gimborn, of the holy Roman Empire hereditary
auUck judge of Rcthweil, and Lord of the feigniories of Murau,
Vrittingau, Frauenberg, Poüelberg, Wildfchutz, Worlick, Reiffenftein,
Dragoniz, Protowin, Winterberg, and Chinau. His arms are a fliield
quarterly, the firft: and fourth fields^ of which are argent and azure, divided
eight fold length wife, on account of Schivarzenberg -, and in the third
and fourth quarter is feen a black raven picking out the eyes of a Turk^s
head, in memory of the fortrefs oi Raab in Hungary which was taken from
the 'Turks in 159?, 1^ Count Adolphus.
§. ^. In the year 1674 the Princes of Schwarzenberg obtained,, on account
of the princely county of Schcarzenbcrg, both feat and voice in the
council of the Princes of the Empire, and, fo early as the year 1672, a
place on the bench of Princes in the circle of Franconia. Their Imperial
and Circular matricular evaluation on account of this princely county, and
likewifc on account of the feigniory of Seinßeim, is forty-nine florins. To.
each chamber-term they contribute, on account of Sch'^arzenberg or Hohenlandsberg,
fixteen rixdollars, and on account of Seinßeim thirty-five.
§,6. At the citadel of Scbivarzberg reffdes the princely regency over theprincely
county of Schivarzenberg and the feigniory of Seinß:eim. The
chancery-diredlor here is at the fame time upper-amtman of the nine prefefturates,
of which both coustries confifl, and over which is alfo appointed
a Centgrave whofe bufinefs is to look to the criminal jurifdicftion. For the
regulation of the Proteflant churches and fubjeös here is appointed a Proteftant
confiftory ; but the 7?off;^/7-catholics ftand under the bi/hopric of
Wurzbt'.rg.
