§, 4. That part of this country which is fubjed to the French^ I omit aS
defcribed before, and therefore fhall only mention the prefedurates which
ftill continue annexed to the Empire, Thefe are,
1. The prefedturate of Lichtenau, which lies in .Sw^/^/^, on the eaft
fide of the Rhitie,
and contains
Lichtenau, a large handfome village, formerly a town;
The church-villages oiBodersiveyher^Leutelßjeim, commonly called Lehen-
Liitzen, Litix, Freyßatt and Bijchenam Hohai-ßeg, in which the lafl: count
of Hanau built him a very fine feat.
2. The prefedturate of Wilstadt, which together with the foregoing
lies on the river Kinzig, and includes
JVilßadf, a confiderable village.
The church -village of Eckarts Weyher, Old and Neiv-Sandkorf, Legelfhurß,
Eolzhurß and AueJihei?n.

§. I. 'T^ H E S E lie in the Wetterau, and of the particular fituation, ex-
-' tent, and nature of each, a defcription fhall be given in the fequel.
§. 2. The counts of ^oJms are fuppofed to be a branch of the counts of
Naßhu, and thus probably are defcended from Otho brother to King Conrad!,
whofe hereditary eftate appears from records to have lain in this
country and at Weilburg, In this ancient houfe are two principal branches,
two firft of thefe are become extind, but the latter, which
is ftill exifting, was in the year 1742 created a Prince of the Empire. The
namely, that of Sobns-Braunfels and that of Sohns-Licb. The former of thefe
was on^e divided into the three collateral lines Braimfeh, Hangen and Greifenßein.
' The
.Sö//??x-Lzti6 line has two collateral ones, namely, i. That of the Z/zV/;-Z/V/6
branch failed, but of which the branch of Lich-hohen-Sohns is ftill in being.
2. That 0^ Sohns-Laubach, of which i. the branch of Laiibach-Laubach is no
more. 2. The branch oi Laubach-Sonne'wald is divided into the two collateral
lines oi Sonnewald'pouch and Somiewald-Sonneivald. 3. The branch of
Laubach-Baruth has three other branches belonging to it, namely, Baruth-
Ajfenheim, Rodelheifn, Baruth-lVildenfeh, and WUdcnfch-Laiibach, Wildcn-
Jelh-Utph, Wildenfeh-lVtldenfelh, and Baruth-Bamth ; the branches of
Sohns-Laubacb-Sonne'ji-ald., and Sobns-Laubach-Barutb, whicli with their
collateral
lines have their eftates in Lujatia and the Eledorate o^ Saxony.
§. 3. The common title of this houfe is count of Schns, lord of Munzenberg,
