•regalia.
§. lo. The Eledor of Brandenburg is pofifefl'ed among the Eledors in
general of the feventh place, and among the temporal ones in particular of
the fourth. As arch-chamberlain of the holy Roinan Empire, he carries the
fcepter before the Emperor, and ferves
him in a filver hand-bowl with the
water for wafliing his hands. His hereditary-chamberlain is the Prince
of Hohenzollern, fee above p. 225. His eleifloral evaluation amounts to
fixty horfe and two hundred and feventy-feven foot, or 1828 florins. The
biflioprics of Brandenburg, Hwoelberg and Lebus he exempts fine onere.
To each chamber-term he pays eight hundred and eleven rix-dollars, fifty-
-eight kruit'/ers and a half. In the council of the Princes of the Empire
the Eleäor of Brandenburg has hitherto enjoyed five voices.

1 1. Of the Prußan order of Knights of the Black Eagle, which Kinc
Frederick I. inftituted in memory of the great folemnity held on occafioa
of placing the royal crown upon his head, an account is to be found
under the kingdom of Prußa. And in the fame place likewife mention
has been made of the order of Knights Pour le tnerite, which was inftituted by
King Frederick II. foon after his entrance upon the government. Its fymbol
is a crofs placed on a ftar of eight points enamelled blue and gold,
and in its upper-moft corner is to be feen the letter F with a royal crown
over it, and in the three other corners, the words Pour le merite in golden
letters. In the four corners wf the crofs are four golden eagles difplayed.
The Knights wear this fymbol of their order pendant at their breafts on a
black ribbon about two fingers in breadth, with two fmall filver borders
running round the neck.
§.12. At Berlin are the following high and principal colleges: liz.
I. The privy State-council, which afl^embles once a week. In this council
all the members of the aftual privy minifters of State and war, as alfo daofc
