Obf, In this place moft properly comes in the lordfliip of WaUfpcrg,
which gives title to the houfe of Furßenberg. It lies betwixt the lordfhip
of Mofzkircb, the landgravate of Neuenbürg, and the commandery of Aifchhaiijhj,
being formerly a knight's fief, purchafed by the houfe of Furftenberg,
but the Teiitonick order referved the right of inveftiture to themfelves,
the exercife of which was difputed by the houfe of Furfienberg.
This lord-Qiip contains the villages of JVojidcrf zudi Grombach, together with
feveral manors and hamlets.

Lies betwixt the dutchy of Wurtemberg and the terrtitorles of the Imperial
city of 17//«, being about two miles long and as much in breadth. It defcended
from the dukes of T^eck to the counts of Helfenßeifi, and has given
name to a peculiar line. On the failure of the counts of this houfe in the

627, in the perfon of Count Rudolph, one third of this lordfliip devolved
to the houfe of Furßenberg, but the other two thirds were purchafed
by the Eledtor of Bavaria of the two elder daughters of the lall
count J to this the dukes of Wurtemberg indeed would not give their confent,
and, in the year 1704, took pofTcfTion of the lordfhip, but by virtue
of the peace of Banden, concluded in the year 17 14, were obliged to rellore
it to the Eledior of Bavaria, who, as lord thereof, has, in the Diet of
the Empire, a feat and vote in the college of the Swabian counts, and in
the circle of Sivabia on the bench of counts, and as fuch is alTefTed by
the Imperial matricida at twenty-four florins, and to a kammerziele pays
ten ruthlers, feventy-three kruitzers. To this lordfliip belongs
Wiefenßeig, a fmall town, fituate in a valley on the Fih amidfl high
mountains, and containing a caflle. This place is a canonry dedicated to
St. Cyriac, being originally founded in the year 861 both as a Bcnedi^ine
convent and a nunnery of Francifcans. In the year 164H it was almoft
entirely confumtd by fire.

The villages of Ditzenbach, Gajpach, Hocbenjiatt, Muhlhaufen, Reichenbach,
and Wefterheim on the Alb.

The landgravate of Baar feems to derive its name from the word baar^
i. e. naked or bare, this country in comparifon of that part of the Schwarzivald
in which it lies being bare, fmooth, and clear of large wood. However
it appears that anciently even a tradt of the Schwarzwald belonged to
