26. Other bailiwicks and eftates, befides the preceding ones, the owners
of which have a feat among the States. Thefe are the following, namely,
I. That of RiedcJ'el. The noble family of Riedefel of Eijenbacfj holds fomc
bailiwicks under Heffc-Caßl, for which it do€S homage to the Landgrave,
and is reckoned among the number of the States; the inhabitants alfo, in
cafes above thirty guilders, have a right of appeal from their bailiwicks to
the provincial court of Heß. Thefe bailiwicks are,
1. Laiiterbacb cantred, or hundred, bordering on the prefefturate of
Rcmrod, and including
Latilerbach, called dcis Werth, together with fix villages.
2. The bailiwick of Engelrod lying contiguous to the prefedlurate of
Ulncbßein,
containing tw'elve villages.
3. The bailiwick of Upper-Ohm, lying betwixt the prefedturate of U/-
richßein, Burggemunde and Gninherg^ and comprehending fix. villages.
2- The Rabejiau or Londorj Grund, bordering on the amts of Homburg
an der Hohe and Gru?ibetg, and belonging to the Nordeck ofRübenau. This
diflrid contains eight villages.
3. Bujecker vale, lying betwixt the prefeflurates of Giejfe?i, Allendorfy
and Grunberg, forming part of the Solms-lich eftate, and including alfo the
villages of Old-Bujeck, Great-Bujeck, Rorjroth, Reyskirchen, Burkhardffelden,
Albach, Oppenroth, Rodgen and Bevern, with near five hundred
vaflils. This diftrid belongs to the coheirs of Bufeck, which are divided
into the lines oi Bujeck in Bufeck, Mtinch-Bitjeck and Braiid-Bufeck. Nierer
and Gc7i-E?-ben in the vale of Btijeck, together with the other inhabitants and
vaflals, have for fome centuries paft acknowledged the houfe of HeJJe as
their ibvereign, and have punctually performed to it all the fervices due
from vafials to their lords. In the year 1576, in a folemn convention, they
acknowledged the perpetual Ibvereignty of the houfe of Hejfe, and that it
belonged to them by defcent ; and though in 1702 the fubjedls in Bujeckvale
and Middle- Rhine, and in 1704 the nobility laid a complaint before
the aulic council, that the coheirs in Bujeck-'vale had illegally put themfelvcs
under the fovereignty of the houfe of HeJJ'e by virtue of the compaö
in the year j
576, and though the aulic council were for annulling
this compaft, yet on the 19th of 'January 1725, it was enaäeH by the

Hioiild invert the coheirs in Bujeck-vale in the Emperor's name, but that
they fbould be fubjedl to him, and conform to the compacit of 1576.
4. The bailiwick of Frohnhausen, bordering on the prefefturate of
Battenberg, and containing the villages of Frohnhaujin and Upper AJphe.
