8. Trarbach, anciently Tranerbach, a town lying on the Mofel, and forming
a joint prefedlurate.
The parilh-church here is common both to Roman
catholics and Lutherans. In it is alfo a Lutheran gymnajium. This town is
a fief of Tr/Vr, and was once a good fortification, which was further defended
by Grevenburg fort. In the year 1703, it was taken by the allies,
and in 1704, both the town and fort; but in 1734, the French vndkÄng
themfelves mafters of them, the town was difmantled and the fort demolilhed.
Its neighbourhood is a fine wine country.
Oppofite the town, on the other fide of the Mofel, France, after the treaty
of Nimeguen, eredred a fort called Montroyal ; but the demolition of it was
made an article of the peace of Ryfwick.
9. Starkenburg, a caftle feated on the Mofel, and formerly a reudence of
the counts of Sponheim.
10. Emkirch, a large village landing on the Mofel, and a fief of the
Eledor-palatine's.
11. 'Traben, a church village fituate on the Mofel.
12. JVolf, a convent and village on the Mofel.

fo called as belonging formerly to the Kings of the Romans and Emperors
only. This difirift confifiis of fix villages, which are Crave, Reyhel, Kinheim,
Erden, Kinderbeuren and Befigel. It belongs in common to the Palfgrave of
