into two departments,
of which one attends only to Gtrman State affairs or
concerns of the Empire. King Frederick William ereded this minirtry in
1733. 3, The general fupreme direftory of the finances, war and domains,
the plan of which was formded by King Frederick William, in 1723, at
the hunting-palace of Schonebeck, and aftually opened in the beginning of
the year 1724. Its ofhce is to look to all the finance and domain affairs
throughout the whole of the royal and electoral countries, whence alfo all
war and domain chambers therein are of courfe under it. The King himfelf
is prefident, and the heads of the fix departments belonging thereto,
who have certain privy finance-counfellors under them, are adual privy
State and war minifters, and act as vice-prefidents and directing minifters
at the general fupreme directory of the finances, war and domains. Under
the firll department (land Priiffia, Lithuania, Pomcrania and the Neumark
; under the fecond, the eleöoral Mark of Brandenburg, Magdeburg
and affairs relative to the duties on fait ; under the third, Cleve, Gelders,
Mors, Eafl-Friefeland, Neufchatel, the Orange fucceiTion and the affairs of
the invalids ; under the fourth, Halberßadt, Minden, Ravemberg, hingen
and Tecklenburg ; the fifth takes cognizance of matters of commerce, manufactures
and fabricks ;
and the fixth of the magazines, provifions, marching,
quartering, faltpetre and fervice matters. The head of the polr-office
for the improvement of the roads, and likewife the diredtor of the province
of the elecftoral Mark, both of whom are alfo adtual privy State and war
minlfterf, and likewife vice-prefidents of the general diredory, ad in concert
with the fame, and indeed the former of them with all the departments,
but the other with the fecond, 4. The fpiritual department, which takes
care of church, univerfity-fchool-matters and affairs relative to the poor,
and has for its head an adual privy State and war minifter. 5. The general
poft-ofiice, which provides for the poft-matters and every thing elfe that hasrelation
thereto throughout the whole of the royal and eledoral
countries,
Silefia excepted. 6. The fupreme court, or tribunal of appeals, which is
the higheft juiliciary college in all the royal aad eledoral countries, and to
which the appeals from the feveral regencies or governments lie. 7. The
chamber-court, which decides in all procefs matters throughout the electoral
Mark, and confifls of two fenates. The chief prefident thereof and
likewife of the tribunal, is the great chancellor for the time being. 8. The
war and domain-chamber of the eledoral Mark, which looks to the farming
out of the royal prefeda rates and mills, as alfo to the finances and domains,
and in general to all matters which regard the royal revenues arifing
