and Hafzlach. At Pflegelberg on the river Arg is a cuftom-houfe.

'T^HESE lie betwixt the Danube and the Her; and of the particular fituation

gave name to the ancient family of the barons of IFaldburg, who were at
firft: hereditary ftewards to the dukes of Szvabia, but in 1518 obtained from
the Eledtor palatine the furvivorfhip of the high office of hereditary fteward
of the Empire, and for the firft time officiated as luch at the diet of the
Empire held zt Ratisbon in the year 1594: At length this title of their
office [Erbtruchfe) became alfo their proper name. For a confidersble time
they held, by way of mortgage, the procuratorffiip of Sicabia, fee Vol. IV.
p. 241. and even one hundred years before that mortgage, namely in 122;,
that office was enj«jyed by the lord fteward Eberhard Truchfefz. The title of
count was conferred on them by Ferdinand II. in the year 16 18, or rather
renewed, the lord fteward Gebhard having long before borne the title of
count, but this his defcendants dropt. James and George Tons to the lord
ftieward John, in the fifteenth century founded the two lines of Scheer and
^o^6'^||- which are ftill exifting: That of Scheer was again divided into
two other lines in the fons of Chrijlopher ; William Henry propagating that
of Scheer^ and Frederick being the founder of that of Trauchburg. The
Wolfegg line was in the fons of George IV. again divided into thofe of Wol~
