5. The lordfliip of Wajferbiirg fituate on the Bodenfee, or lake of Coftanz,
and purchafed in the fixteenth century by the Counts of Montfort.
This lordlhip contains in it
Wajferbiirg, a market-town, near which ftands a cafile of the fame
name on a point of land which runs into the lake of Coßanz.
HOHENEMBS
The County of
Lies on the Rhine in the valley which takes its name from that river,
and is furrounded by the Außrian lordfliip of Arlberg. The houfe of
Hohenembi is of an ancient and noble extraftion, the family feat of IJhper-
Ems flood farther up the Rhine, one league beyond Chicr in Upper-Bund,
and near the village oi Ems. On this family the Emperor Charles V. conferred
the dignity of Baron, and foon afterwards alfo that of Count. In
the time of the Emperor Ferdinand 1. Count James Hannibal obtained a
feat and vote both in the Diet of the Empire, and alfo in that of S^^'abia.
His fon Cajpar, in the year 1614, purchtfed of Count Charles Leivis the
lordfliips of Vadiitz and Schellenberg, but thefe v^'ere again alfenated, James
Hannibal his fon is the founder of all the prefent Caunre' of Hohencmbs.
From Charles Frederick is defcended the Hohenembs line, his brother
Francis_ William founding that of Vadutz. The former ended in Fra-ncis
Charles Antony and the county of Hohene77ibs devolved to the Vadutz line,
which is ftill in being. The title of the reigning Count Francis' William
Rudolph is Count of the holy Roman Empire and of Flohenembs and Gallara,
Lord of Dornbiern, Wiednau, Hafzlach, and the free Imperial manor of
