HOHEN-GEROLDSECK,
Is fituate betwixt the Brlfgau, the Furfienherg lordfliip of Hiiuj'. in tlie
Kinzing Thnle,
the Imperial town of Zell on the Hamincnbacb and the Gcngenbach,
the Baaäcn-Baadcn lordOiip of Mablberg, the NalJau-Saarbnicke lord-
Ihip of LoZ»r, the bilhop of Strofzbtirg% manor of Ettenheim, and the £/,'7£v;^iijg
quarter of the Marggravate of Hochberg, being about three Icr.gues lonir
and as many in breadth. It confifts partly of an Imperial and AiiltnaniicU
and partly alfo of particular inheritances. The male-heirs of the ancient
family of the Barons of Gej-cUfeck failed in the year 1634 in Jamfs, Lord
of GeroIJjeck, vvhofe only daughter, A/ma Man'a, was firit married to
Count Frederick of So/ms, and after his deceafe to the Margerave Frederick
of Baaden-Durlach. Ever Hnce the year 1620, the Barons of Krcnber^ have
obtained the reverfion of the county of Hohcn-Geroldjcck, not only in the
Imperial but likewife in the Aufirian fiefs, and in 1635 50t poffelTion of
the whole country : But the above-mentioned Anr.a Maria, or the Mar?-
graves of Baaden-Durlach could not obtain this, though their proper inheritance.
On the deceafe of Crat Adolphus, Count of Kronberg, in the year
1691 without iffue, the county of Hohen-Geroldfeck efcheated to the Lord
paramount, and after that devolved as a hef to Charles Cafpar ion der Leyen,
who in the year 171 1 was raifed to the dignity of an hereditary Count of
the Empire, and in the fame year obtained alfo a feat and vote on the
bench of Counts in the circle of Sioabia, as alfo another feat and vote in
the Diet of the Empire in the college of Swabian Counts. The title ot
thcle Counts is that of the Holy Reman Empire, and Von der Leyen and Hobefi-GeroIdJeck,Baions
ofAdendorf, and Lord of BliefcaJtel,BurrioeiL'r, Munchweiler,
Otterbach, Nie^cern, Saßg, Ahrenfels, Bongard, Simpelje'd, 6cc.
Their arms are a flate fapkire, party per pate pearl ; and their ailefTmenc to
a Roman month Gxteen florins, and to the chamber at Wetzlar eioht rixdollars,
nine kruitzers and three fourths. The county contains in it
Hohen-Geroldjeck,
a caftle feated on a hill.
Daiitenßein, or Dutenßein, alfo a caflle ; together with
The villages of Selbach and Mittelbach, and likewife thofe of Prinzbacb,
Derlcnbach, Steinhach, Reichenbach and Kuhach, all mean places.
