Merklingcn is a market-town. The other paridies belonging to this
.manor are Gechmgen^ Hanjen nader Wurm, Henglhtt, and Simnefjheim.
IV. Places out of the dutchy, in which the houfe of Wurtemberg enjoys
certain privileges or incomes, or which are fiefs of that dutchy.
I. The county of honvenßeiny fituate betwixt the dwXcXv^ oi Wurtemberg
and the covinty oi Hohenhhe, and beft exhibited in profefTor Helfe's map of
the Circle of Swabia. The ancient counts of Lowetißeifi were defcended
from the counts of Caho. The lafl: of this line was Count Lewis, who fold
the county for 14000 florins to the Eledor-palatine Frederick the ViSlorious,
whofe fon Lewis, by Clara of 'Tettingen, on the deceafe of his father, infircad
of the lordfhips bequeathed to him obtained from the Eledor Philip
the cownty o^ Lowenßei?j. The Emperor Maximilian I. in the year 1494,
promoted this Lexms to the rank of an Imperial count ; and he is the
founder of the prefent Princes and Counts oi Loivenflein-wertheim. In his
time duke Ulrich of Wurtemberg, during the Palatinate war, made himfelf
alio mafter of this county of Lowenßeif} : And though in 1510 it was returned
on the mediation of feveral Electors and Princes, yet was it on condition
that he fliould hold it
as a dependent fief.
The arms of the county are a lion gules. It is divided betwixt the
Princes and Counts of the houfe of Lowenßein-wertheim,
I. To the line of the counts belong
1. The little town and manor of Lowenflein.
2. The manor of Sulzbacb.
3. The Prince's line pofl^effes
1 The manor of Abftadt or Wildeck, in which is the caftle of Wildeck
and the market-town of Abftadt.
2. In the Imperial cities of Efzlingen, Giengen, Heilbronn, Ffullendorf,
Kentlingen, Kotbwcil, Spijr and Weail; Hingerloch, belonging to Hohe?i-
•zollern ; in Langenau, belonging to Ulm ; and in Wejtheim a dependency of
Hall; as alfo in Rofengarten and the Wurtemberg convents of Denkender/^
Blaiibeurcn, Herbrcchtingen, Alpirfpacb, S. Georgen, Lichtenftern, KonigsbroJin,
Maulbronn, Hirfau, Bebenhaufen, Anhaifen, and Murhard they have the'r
Rewards. In the Imperial town of Schwabifch Gmimdis. a Wurtemberg cfcorttrooper
-, and in Stotzifjgen, a place in the barony of Rackenitz, a bailiff.
3. Laflly, to this place belong the pariflies of Bibersfeld, Durnau,
Golzhaufen', Great-Afpach, Hochdorf, Bey Enzweyhingen ; MiSlhaufen on
the Enz, which is famous for a red winej Oppeniveiler., Pfumcni, and
Weiler in the Weinbergers thai.
