At its tenth session, the Ad Hoc Committee decided that joint investigations shouldbe dealt with in a separate article <strong>of</strong> the convention and that, consequently, paragraph 2(c) <strong>of</strong> article 19 should be deleted (see note 3 by the Secretariat concerning article 27 <strong>of</strong>the convention). In view <strong>of</strong> that decision, article 14 bis was considered, finalized andapproved, as amended. The last amendments are reflected in the final text <strong>of</strong> the convention,as included in the report <strong>of</strong> the Ad Hoc Committee (A/55/383, sect. IV, draft resolution,annex I), that was submitted to the General Assembly for adoption pursuant toresolution 54/126 <strong>of</strong> 17 December 1999.B. Approved text adopted by the General Assembly(see resolution 55/25, annex I)Article 19Joint investigationsStates Parties shall consider concluding bilateral or multilateral agreementsor arrangements whereby, in relation to matters that are the subject <strong>of</strong> investigations,prosecutions or judicial proceedings in one or more States, the competentauthorities concerned may establish joint investigative bodies. In the absence <strong>of</strong>such agreements or arrangements, joint investigations may be undertaken by agreementon a case-by-case basis. The States Parties involved shall ensure that thesovereignty <strong>of</strong> the State Party in whose territory such investigation is to take placeis fully respected.
